Poor Calvin’s Atlanta

Hello beautiful people! It’s Mother’s Day 2018, I went back to my home state, Georgia. To spend time with my mom in the ATL.

My mother’s favorite restaurant in town is Poor Calvins. It’s an creative Asian American fusion place with super fun dishes.

The restaurant is located in midtown. Which is downtown adjacent. There’s only street parking. So be prepared for that pain in the ass. When we walked in and were seated promptly, but the place was packed. It is best to make reservations. We were then greeted by our waitress. Who’s name escapes me. However, she seemed to have her own catch phrase. “Sha-na-naa”. She repeats it’s after every sentence . “You want water? sha-na-naa”. “The lobster is great. sha-na-naa”. My mother finds this endearing. I did not. She was very friendly and knowledgeable. I can’t fault her for being creative.

We started with the calamari. They were fried with whole jalapeños and topped with a wasabi sauce with a side sweet Thai sauce.

For my main course. I ordered the lobster fried rice. My god, what a presentation. It was very very good as well.

Separate occasion w/ pork belly

For dessert we had a toasted pound cake topped with strawberries, bananas, and ice cream. This is one of the best desserts I’ve had in awhile. I craved it later in the day and I am not a dessert person.

The prices are about $15-$25 a plate. 100% worth it. Even with the “Sha-na-naa” waitress. It is an experience. I can’t wait to go back. 🙂
